My Silence

A spoken word performance about coping mechanisms

Victims of trauma sometimes say nothing because they know whats coming next. Fake sympathy, unwanted pity so silence is often the easiest option.

I can’t explain to you in that moment why I am the way that I am, so you walk away after making a misinformed judgement. My Silence is the result.

Thank you to the anonymous, unknown author whose words I speak, your words helped me a lot, I hope I have done them justice for you.

This is my original recording of this piece.

Lyrics:Poem

If you don’t understand my silence, you’ll never understand me.

Sometimes, my silence is not about anger or attitude, it’s just my way of coping.

When I’m quiet, it means I’m tired of explaining myself, tired of being misunderstood, tired of pretending I’m okay when I’m not.

Silence is where I find peace, where I process everything I can’t put into words.

If you care, you’ll notice the things I don’t say, you’ll feel the weight behind my silence.

Sometimes, silence says everything words never could.
